How OTA promotions work with Pricepoint?

We can break the promotions down into 3 categories:

I. Genius-like discounts

Discounts such as the Genius program on Booking.com, or discounts offered on mobile devices are not affected by Pricepoint activity. They can be offered independently according to the property's strategy.

II. Fixed-value, ongoing discounts for visibility

Some properties maintain a flat discount applied to all prices and days, e.g. of 10%, to achieve the effect of the strike-through price on the OTA. These kinds of discounts are not affected by Pricepoint activity and they can be kept in place.

III. Rule-based discounts e.g. last-minute discounts.

Rule-based discounts are inferior to demand-based price calculation that is performed by Pricepoint's artificial intelligence. Furthermore, the rule-based discounts can offset or conflict with Pricepoint recommendations.

For example, the property has a last-minute discount on Booking.com but our intelligence is actually recommending the price increase.

Another example, the property offers a 10% last-minute discount. Pricepoint also offered a 10% discount, as a result, the actual discount will be 20% and the price drop will be too big.

For this reason, it is necessary to disable all rule-based discounts/promotions on OTAs before Pricepoint is enabled.

Our experience shows that Pricepoint recommendations are highly more effective than rule-based promotions.
